Why Does Body Shaming Still Exist, In A World Of So Called #DIFFERENCE And #ACCEPTANCE #CALVINKLEIN

A Calvin Klein Underwear Campaign that I modelled in, was recently posted on the Calvin Klein official instagram page. Needless to say I was extremely pleased as it is a step forward in to celebrating more body types. However it seemed many others were not so pleased that Calvin Klein were happy to post a plus size model , modelling their underwear! Also a model that represented a demographic of women that often get overlooked.

The image seemed to bring about a lot of outrage and disgust, but also a lot of positivity and support!

However being the one on the receiving end of the body shaming can somewhat take a negative toll on you.

After having just about enough of the rude and disrepectful comments, I took to my instagram platform to address some of the negative back lash. See image below

I WROTE:

I had the honour of being posted on @CalvinKlein their recognition that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and races is amazing.. and continuing to break the mould towards catering for all! Thank you for ALL The Extremely Positive Responses! I truly appreciate it ♥️🖤⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Now let me address this!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This is why I do what I do!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

How many different ways can you be called fat, obese, unhealthy & disgusting!

Body shaming NEEDS to stop! This isn't simply just insulting someone's Physical appearance because it's your "medically certified diagnosis" or your so called "opinion"! This can be, and very much IS Mentally damaging to so many young and older people. The way in which you address things can be so Detrimental to how a young girl or boy will feel about themselves, and in turn the actions they possibly could take! The aim should never be to tear down any woman (or anyone) regardless of their size. Don't for a moment act like you care about health. No man or woman has the right to make someone feel as though they are not worthy enough or good enough. It's absolutely sad and disgusting! Thank the Most High I am on a journey of self acceptance and can see past these kind of comments. And for everyone... Embracing who you are for YOURSELF is so key.. because no one else is going to do it for you! I rather be a role model for people to love themselves at every stage, than for them to hate themselves!! And to the racist trolls, you're not even worth addressing! #NoToBodyShaming #Inclusivity #Diversity#BodyPositivity #BodyConfidence

Many were in agreement with me!

But WHY OH WHY are we still facing such a response from people in a world that is supposedly championing, being free, being you, being proud and being different.

Are we deluded in thinking that there really is acceptance of what is not seen as the cookie cutter standard "norm"

In total I believe the positivity eventually out trumped the amount of negativity , the support of the image went viral.

Here Is Just Some Of The Support:

What I took from this is that in a world where people don't Truly accept you! It is paramount that we ACCEPT OURSELVES for OURSELVES!

"How Dare You Have The Audacity To Love Yourself!!!!!" Society said⁣ and most likely will continue to say! Do Not Question Yourself!!! Do Not Go By Somebody Else's Standards.⁣ It is a healthier mindset, that will lead to a healthier lifestyle!⁣ ⁣I am thankful for the support of those who do not demonise someone for embracing themselves. We are all on different journeys of self acceptance and evolving.
